Available for the first time since 1982! After changing their name from The Urinals to 100 Flowers, John Talley-Jones, Kjehl Johansen and Kevin Barrett released the “Presence of Mind” 7” on their Happy Squid imprint. The EP’s three tracks were recorded at Ethan James’ (Blue Cheer) Radio Tokyo studio. “Presence of Mind” would reappear the following year on 100 Flowers Self-titled LP, but “Dyslexia” and “Mop Dub” are unique to this release. According to John Talley-Jones, “Mop Dub” which is “Presence of Mind” played backwards was inspired by the conservative right’s 1980s fixation with backward masking in music. Kat Talley-Jones is responsible for the sleeve’s front and back cover photos, an homage to Věra Chytilová’s Daisies (1966) and French writer/filmmaker Alain Robbe-Grillet.
This reissue is limited to just 300 copies.
